Out on a Limb

I'm out on a limb.

One step in the wrong direction,
   and I fall off.

And.

I.

just.

can't.

go.

on.

I don't know how I'm going to make it.

Wondering if You'll catch me if I fall.

Wondering how to take the next step,
when there are so many steps
    that it overwhelms my soul.

Just like jogging up the hill,
thinking I can't possibly keep jogging the entire way up.
But if I just take one step at a time,
put one foot in front of the other,
I'll make it up that hill.

And so You lead,
   one step at a time.

You guide,
encouraging me to take just one step,
putting one foot of faith in front of the other.

Knowing that You'll catch me if I fall.

Even if it feels like I am the tightrope walker,
juggling many balls in the air at the same time.
And that I'll get to the point where fruit grows
in these situations that look hopeless and barren.

But You call them hopeful and fruitful.

Because You're not asking me to run to the end or

even worry about how to get to the end

but with My eye on you,

   take one step.

"Be here," You say. "The King is wild for you." Psalm 45:10-11

Psalm 52:9 "I'll stay right here, Your good name, my hope."

He goes before us. Whatever awaits us is encountered first by Him.

This is the blessed life-not anxious to see far in front, nor careful about the next step, not eager to choose the path, nor weighted with the heavy responsibilities of the future, but quietly following behind the Shepherd, one step at a time.

...and fears my mind are shaking; heart seems to dread what life may hold in store;

But I am His -He knows the way I'm taking, More blessed still-
HE GOES ON BEFORE.

Your assignment is to follow Me - allowing Me to direct your path ... stay close to Me.

This tree limb caught my eye when out for walk with the dog the other weekend. I had to stop and snap a picture and didn't really know why it caught my eye...

... until I opened my Bible and devotional, and for three days in a row, there was the phrase:

Out on a Limb

In the book of Matthew and in the Psalms and in "Jesus Calling,"
. . . you compare this life with You as going "out on a limb."
